Is the Relay Response field required for using the Authorize.net gateway? We’re trying to resolve the problem of users getting the well-known timeout error when Authorize.net’s servers try to return to our site after completing a transaction. We’re looking at a number of other approaches (stripped down “thank you” page as the return URL, optimizing the site in general to improve response times, etc), but my client asked recently “what if the user simply isn’t returned to the site after completing the transaction”? Does Authorize.net provide any default link to the referring URL? If not, can we provide one?
Just looking for thoughts on how to get some resolution to this – thanks in advance!
The relay response field serves the function of a place for Authnet to pass the full transaction response to a URL on your site. Then Event Espresso takes the transaction response and updates to transaction status from not-paid to paid.
So regardless of whether the customer gets returned to a receipt page on your site when they return, the timeout error for sending the transaction info may still happen when Authnet tries to send the transaction response.
