Hi,

Just made EE4 live on our website… it works great! I installed the IOS app on my iPhone and after downloading and entering credentials for the website, I get the following error

The URI provided was too long for the server to process. Often the result of too much data being encoded as a query-string of a GET request, in which case it should be converted to a POST Request

Hi there,

Which version of the App do you currently have installed?

It sounds like your hosts config may need to be updated for the app to work, the default limit is usually roughly 2000 chars on a GET request which you should not be hitting just logging into the app.

Yes, i am simply trying to log-in to the app.

I’m using whatever version that was available on the App Store – Version 2.5.1.

I dont know what you mean by

  • ” your hosts config may need to be updated for the app to work, the default limit is usually roughly 2000 chars on a GET request”

Your host will know this means. Can you contact your website host and let them know about the error? Then they should be able to check the servers settings.

The host – Siteground has responded with:

Thank you for your patience. I believe what the plugin developers refer to is by increasing the LimitRequestLine on the Apache configuration file. I’m afraid this limit was imposed on the globally and cannot be changed locally to your account. You will need a dedicated server where you can have root access. With that said, perhaps they can provide some alternatives by turning it into a POST request? You can also try to lower down the information that need to be encoded through the plugin to resolve the issue.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

    Best regards,

    Technical Support Team

Did they happen to mention what the actual limit was? The ideas they mentioned about changing the code in apps are not options, but there may be something unique to your set up that can be worked around.

If you can complete the form on this secure page, support staff can investigate further.

It looks like you missed the part of the documentation that says this setting in iThemes Security (needs to be disabled):
iThemes Security plugin users: The Filter Long URL Strings option under Settings > System Tweaks must be turned off.

It appears that there are still some issues with the server though, and we can troubleshoot those if you can complete the form and be sure to include FTP credentials.

    Hi,

I submitted the form. Have you been able to review the case?

Also, I noticed that the error has now changed. The only thing that I have done since I reported the issue, is install the “Member” plugin by Justin Tadlock.

on the IOS I am trying to login with the admin user and the error now states:

Sorry, you are not allowed to list events. Missing permissions: ee_read_events, ee_read_others_events, ee_read_private_events

I have tried logging off and on again to no avail.

We did not get your second form submissions. If you can send the form and include the FTP credentials, we can log in and add the line of code to the .htaccess file that’s outlined in the documentation. In most cases that’s the solution for the “Sorry, you are not allowed to list events” error.

Thanks. I have updated the .htaccess file and it is now working as expected.

    Thanks for your help.

Actually I now have another related issue.

I created an Event Manager and gave this user permissions according to Required Permission Capabilities: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-event-apps/

When I use this user to login, I get the error:

The data is not in the correct format. The data could not be read because it isn’t in the correct format

I can use an admin account to login and that works fine.

Also note that I am now using the WP Application Password Plugin.

this is now resolved – i had not given the user enough permissions
