As with most events, we don’t mind what country an attendee is from. (And if we did, people from the countries we didn’t want would probably just lie about it…) We are one of the events that do need to know which country is though.
So rather than go through the entire list of countries in the EE / General Settings / Countries tab, selecting each of them and ticking ‘country appears in dropdown selection lists’, it seems that it’s much easier to just have a text box for a country question rather than use the built-in dropdown one.
This doesn’t seem very sensible.
Feature request 1: two ways to select country, one with just the ones actively included, and one with every known country.
Most registrants will be from the UK and as a side-effect of using a text box means we can also say ‘Country (if not UK)’ too, rather than have everyone scroll down to the right country.
Feature request 2: some way to say ‘I want this one on the top’ on country dropdown lists.

Hi Ian,
In 4.6.7 there will be a WordPress filter added so you can change the state and country to a text input.
I’ll log your request to “Favorite” a country so it can be on top.
