Hey there… Keep getting warning emails from PayPal: Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). IPNs sent to the following URL(s) are failing: If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information. If this problem continues, IPNs may be disabled for your account. Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue. I’ve read through previous posts on this topic and have tried all suggested solutions. IPN is set to ON at PayPal. URL is http://crossridge.church/transactions , I’ve changed the page template to the simple one you offer as a download. EE4 is completely up to date on our site. Some users are getting notifications that their payment wasn’t accepted and that their registration could not be completed. Others (including myself when I tested it this afternoon) are simply returned to the payment option page where they can click to pay via paypal again. Just keeps looping around. Payments are going through at the paypal side. Everyone gets payment success notifications from paypal, but something gets screwy in the transfer back to our site. Any help with this would be appreciated. Have an event coming very soon and need this to work. Well aware that it still could be something I’m missing…but I can’t find what that is. Thanks… Andy |
Hi Andy, could you double-check that the transactions page is published and publicly available? http://crossridge.church/transactions/ It currently shows a blank white page with some text. — |

It’s published and publicly available. It’s only a white page with text since changing the template for that page to the simple version you guys offer for a download. It used to look like our regular site template with that same text. I’ve never been able to get that page to say anything other than, ” This is the Event Espresso Transactions page. This page receives instant payment notification (IPN) requests and should have a status of published, but should not be easily accessible by site visitors. Do not add it to your website’s navigation menu or link to it from another page. Also, do not delete it or change its status to private.” What is it supposed to say? |
With the Simplified transactions template that is how that page should look, so it is correct. If you log into your PayPal account then go to this link: https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-ipns-history You will see a list of all of your IPNs sent from your account. Do they show a status of failed? If you click on the Message ID you’ll see something like this – http://take.ms/96Cb0 What is the HTTP response code? I suspect your host (or a WP security plugin) is blocking the IPN sent from PayPal so it shows as failed. |

Some of them are “Failed”, some of them are “Retrying” and one is “Sent”. The “Sent” one is in the middle of the “Retrying” ones. With the exception of the “sent” one, they all have 403 Errors. Guessing that’s something on the server side. Any ideas where to start looking? |
Hi, a 403 is a forbidden error (http://support.hostgator.com/articles/403-forbidden-or-no-permission-to-access) which means the communication is being blocked. Did you recently add any security plugins to your site? — |

Haven’t made any intentional changes to our site. I’ll check with the host to see if there’s something in place that would make that an issue. Thanks. |
It could be a firewall setting or the host’s ISP may be blocking PayPal. We’ve seen this happen before. |
