I am in the process of putting up / creating a wordpress website. Let’s keep things short: For this email, my company name is “Company” and my webhost is “webhost.com”. Thus my website currently is “www.Company.webhost.com”. Eventually, when all the development is complete, my site well merely be “www.Company.com” (which we own) but that one is currently in use by my older webhost company which is not a wordpress site.

However, before we clean up our databases/get our ducks in a row to go live with the new WordPress “www.Company.com” we have to sell tickets for a series of events (6 events over 2 days). So we’ve decided to use the under construction http://www.Company.webhost.com address to run Espresso 4 for this set of events. In the future we’ll run Espresso once the development site goes live and we commit to the new webhost/Wordpress site.

Problem:

Event Espresso is giving me dire warnings about not putting in my site license key on a development site. I can’t find what will happen if we do it, because we really want to use it this once.

What will happen if we use it this once?

Hi Karyn,

From your point of view, not very much at all 🙂

Your license key will be assigned to http://www.Company.webhost.com. That’s it.

The only issue (and its not really an issue) you may run into is when your domain changes, the license key will say its invalid and you won’t be able to update until that’s fixed. To fix it you request a reset on your license key through your account page, it will be reviewed and then reset so the key can be reassigned to your new domain.

You can run Event Espresso without setting the license key if you prefer, the only difference then is you won’t see automatic updates and would need to manually update EE yourself.

Thank you! I’ll set my key to the dev site, then request a reset when we go live. Thanks!
