I purchased Event Espresso and followed the instructions for installation from the event-espresso-core-reg.zip. Event Espresso shows on my WordPress site as an installed plug in, but there is no link on the left side to actually access the application. I can ‘edit’ from the installed plug-ins link, but cannot do anything more than that.

That can happen if the capabilities were not added to the admin account for some reason.
On your site go to {domain}/wp-admin/admin.php?page=espresso_maintenance_settings&action=data_reset
Click the “Reset Event Espresso Capabilities” button.
Does EE now show in the admin menu?
