I’m using EE 4.3+, Espresso 4.10.2, and Events Table View Template 4.4.9+. We are listing both trainings and events. I read that there are ways to make different events show up in different ways. Is it possible to change the links next to trainings to say “register” and the other events to something like “more”.

Also, is it possible to make the filtering more user friendly on a mobile device? Or to have a default on (ie to have it default to trainings and have other events be accessible if selected using the dropdown)?

The dropdown filter is not easy to use on a mobile device and many people access our trainings on a phone.

thank you
Angela

Hi Angela,

Can you be a little more specific on the changes you want to make?

I read that there are ways to make different events show up in different ways.

As in differetn views for mobile and desktop? For example the calendar on desktop and the event list on Mobile, or do you mean something else?

Is it possible to change the links next to trainings to say “register” and the other events to something like “more”.

Just on the table view template? If so it is possible to do this using a custom template for the add-on if you are comfortable with PHP and FTP?

Also, is it possible to make the filtering more user friendly on a mobile device? Or to have a default on (ie to have it default to trainings and have other events be accessible if selected using the dropdown)?

Not currently, at least not without custom development.

May I ask what kind of output you are looking for on mobile?

We use the calendar for our trainings, our events, and for other peoples’ events. We are using a different registration system so I enter a url in the “Alternative Registration Box” and Display the ticket selector. It kind of works, but the auto links for “Register” and “View Details” are confusing. “Register” brings up details for events and “View Details” knocks the user out of the site and opens the Forms Assembly registration form.I tried to attach a pic but couldn’t.

So, by “different events showing up in different ways” I was referring to trainings, partner events and fundraisers…all of them need different treatments. Or at the least our trainings need to be differentiated from events. And hopefully there is a way to keep people in the site of they are registering for an event that uses an alternative registration.

thanks
Angela

For screenshots you need to host the image and post the link here:

Ok, so you basically just want to change ‘View details’ to more and change the calendar to display ‘More’ for events with an external url?

And hopefully there is a way to keep people in the site of they are registering for an event that uses an alternative registration.

there isn’t, as the registration for the event is handled outside of Event Espresso it redirects the user to the given URL to complete registration.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for getting back to me. Actually, I want to:
Change “Register” to more… because these are not our events and we are not accepting registration. AND change “View Details” to say “Register”, since people will be taken to a registration form and that is more user friendly.

Any way to do this? I kinda figured it was not Espresso that was bumping people out of the site but thought I’d ask. This whole SalesForce/Forms Assembly process is cumbersome but it works for parts of the process.

thank you!
Angela

Apologies for the delayed reply.

Change “Register” to more… because these are not our events and we are not accepting registration.

Yes, the text is usually passed through a filter, so if we are referring to the ticket selector text you can use something like this:

https://gist.github.com/Pebblo/6ca533539b2ed37ed88801825fdd2f2f#file-functions-php

Add the code from the first snippet in a custom functions plugin on your site, we have some documentation on creating one here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/create-site-specific-plugin-wordpress-site/

Change ‘Purchase Tickets’ to ‘More…’ or whatever text you prefer to use in place of ‘Register now’.

‘View Details’ is displayed when EE doesn’t have a registration option within itself, if you change that to register and then have events that do no use an external URL that may be more confusing.

The text is passed through a filter so you can use something the above, only using the FHEE__EE_Ticket_Selector__display_view_details_btn__btn_text filter.

We have some documentation and examples for using both here:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/customize-checkout-registration-button-text/#register-now
