Hi guys, we just need some tips from you about the following:
We’re planning to redesign our website, meaning we will change our theme and we’ll do it on a staging site. Can you please help us plan?

1. We will copy the entire live site on our staging site including all events, but other events and registrations created after this will need to be imported on the staging site before we make it live. What would be the best tool we will need to use for the import and export process? Is it something like this: https://eventespresso.com/wiki/how-to-export-registrations-to-csv/

2. The live site will still be running while creating the new site on the staging, we want to make sure all events and registrations will be imported to the staging once we go live, how can we do this?

3. Does the payment will still be the same even if we change the theme?

Thank you so much!

Hi,

Ideally you would change the theme on the staging site, modify content if needed, test, then simply copy the changes related to the new theme onto the live site. There is no direct way to export/import events & registrations from one site to another without copying the entire database.

That said, if it’s a scenario where:
– The live site has Event Espresso data, and the staging site doesn’t have Event Espresso data
– You want to preserve the staging site’s posts & pages, because they’re different than the live site’s posts & pages

You could:
1. Run the WordPress core export tool on the staging site, then set that backup aside for now
2. Put the live site into Event Espresso’s maintenance mode, then migrate the live site’s database to the staging site
3. Then delete all standard WP posts/pages on the staging site
4. Then run the WordPress import tool to import the WP posts/pages (restoring the staging site’s posts & pages)
5. If there are other custom things like theme options & widgets those would need to be re-imported too. Verify the staging site looks & functions exactly as you intend it too
6. Take one last backup of the live site (just in case step 7 does not go as planned)
7. Migrate the staging site to live site using a tool like WP Migrate DB
8. Deactivate Maintenance mode
9. Verify the live site looks & functions exactly as you intend it too
