Hi there,
I know that Event Espresso can tell me when someone pays, but as almost ALL of our event attendees will choose the ‘invoice/purchase order’ option, I’m never, ever notified about new registrations.
We really need to know about new registrations fairly promptly, and I don’t have the time to log into WordPress and then go to Event Espresso to dig around for activity ten times a day. This is supposed to save me time, not make more work. 🙁

Any tips on how I can tweak ES into doing this simple task?

Cheers,
Matt

Hello Matt,

Make sure that “Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?” is set to “Yes” in Event Espresso > General Settings > Email Settings.

Check your spam folder as well.

Also, your server may need to authenticate the emails before sending. I would recommend installing an SMTP plugin and providing the proper credentials or using a Gmail account in the SMTP account settings.

Check out our Pre-Release Channel. We have a Mandrill and Postmark add-on to help with email deliverability.

Hi Jonathan, My settings were already as you suggested, (SPAM folder is clear) and attendees are getting their confirmation e-mails fine (as am I when I make a dummy registration) so it seems I don’t need to do anything server-side re authentication or use an SMTP plug-in – or am I down the wrong path here?

So, to re-cap – all e-mails seem to be going out fine to attendees – BUT – I’m not receiving any notification when people register. From what I understand – I ‘normally‘ would ONLY be notified once someone has actually paid but this isn’t any good to me. (REMEMBER: No-one is ‘paying’, they’re simply registering and choosing to pay later – via invoice/purchase order/cheque/bank-transfer etc.)

I appreciate your help on this!
cheers, Matt

Not true, the notifications go out to you as well if you have the “Send registration confirmation emails before payment is received?” option set to yes.

I would give a service like Mandrill a try, they have a free option so it wont cost you anything but time to see if it helps or not.

Hi Dean, not quite sure what you’re suggesting here. What’s Mandrill and how might it help fix this problem?

If email notifications are supposed go to me (admin) but aren’t (while registrants ARE getting theirs) then basic fault-finding technique would suggest my install of Event Espresso is broken somehow.

i.e. surely I don’t need a mail/smtp solution if ALL mails from EE are going out EXCEPT the ones to admin???

So basically, I’m still stuck. This topped off with the fact that 12 people SWEAR they registered for last week’s event via our EE-powered site but no details appeared in the attendees list for them makes me start to worry that my money and time with the EE plugin has been for nought 🙁 I really need some help here folks. And I need my faith restored.
Bugs, ugly tickets, clunky amateur invoices and poor data access makes me long for Eventbrite. Sorry! 🙁
At least EE support staff are nice. 🙂

Hi,

I see what you are saying. I suggested the Mandrill/Postmark route as it does not seem to be a failing of the plugin as such due to the fact that the registration emails are still being fired off.

Often we get people who have the your situation reversed, where they are getting admin emails but the users are not getting registration emails. We have found that it is normally the server setup/load that is the problem, and that taking the emailing away from the server and into a third party services like Mandrill or Postmark resolves the issue.

OK, so your situation may not be exactly the same, but it may be a resolution.

Nothing at all? No emails or attendee record? If you have more than 50 attendees already have you increased the Retrieval limit in order to see more than 50 attendees in one go?

If so, is there any known information regarding the registrations – same locality, browser, processes etc?

If there is a problem we are more than happy to try to help you resolve the issue.

Whilst most issues that come up are not generally a failure of the plugin, some are and if that is the case we do want to know so that we can fix them.

Awesome to hear that!

Thanks Dean,
Didn’t know what Mandrill was. Checked it out. Installed it. It ‘seems’ to be handling stuff better, but I still get issues – so maybe it’s with my primary e-mail account (which is still with Godaddy – where I bought the domain – and not hosted/managed by my WP hosts, HostNine – [should I move it??])

Is there anything I need to know about Mandrill as it applies to Event Espresso?

Not sure about ‘nothing at all’ – but there’s no attendee record, no notification e-mail to us.

I’ve not spoken to the attendees who ‘just turned up’ (which messed up our catering!) but the boss simply says they all said they registered online. So, I don’t know if they got their confirmation email or downloaded an invoice etc. The big issue for me is the lack of attendee record. (Other attendees earlier managed to register for those events fine).

I’m happy to supply you my log-ins offline if you need.
Thanks for all your help! 🙂

Hi,

Well GoDaddy may be an explanation in itself. We simply don’t recommend them.

Moving it may be a solution, but obviously it would be your call.

Re: Mandrill, we have a plugin available on the Pre Release channel (see your account page) which helps integrate that service into Event Espresso so I would check it out.

(Note: Pre release stuff is well pre release, so their may be bugs and so forth in it, just be aware of this and use a testing server first if possible, and back up!).

Re: mystery attendees. Well, I am concerned about that as much as you are, but I find it hard to believe that there is no trace of them, yet they stated they registered. As soon as the user gets to the confirmation screen they are added to the database.

Without more data it’s going to be hard to pinpoint, I mean it could even be that they gatecrashed! Has this situation occurred before that event or after?

I can happily take a look at the site if you provide log in details.

Ideally I would like to have at least some of the mystery attendees information (names/emails) if you have that.

Please send them via https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

NOTE: login details need to be Admin level.

Hi Matt,

Did you get hold of any “mystery” attendee data at all?
