Hi!

We have Event Espresso 3.1.36.6.P running. Now we want to upgrade to EE4. So I downloaded the zip file and installed Version 4.9.53.p. When I activate the plugin a http 500 error shows up. I read some stuff in this forum and found this message in the error.log:

[Wed Nov 29 15:13:13.745212 2017] [:error] [pid 6209] [client 137.120.150.14:64908] PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare espresso_version() (previously declared in /data/wp-ontwikkel/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso-core-reg/espresso.php:106) in /data/wp-ontwikkel/wp-content/plugins/event-espresso/espresso.php on line 35, referer: https://libraryontwikkel.maastrichtuniversity.nl/wp-admin/plugins.php

I also looked into the PHP memory and it has 512M allocated. We increased it to 1024, but no results.

Any advise on this one?

Thanks in advance,

Hi there,

You can’t run both EE3 and EE4 at the same time, the error above means you have EE3 activated when you try to activate EE4, you need to disable EE3 first.

Note EE4 is a completely different system to EE4, its not just an update to EE3. We recommend updating on a development copy of the site first to confirm it works how you are expecting before running the update on the live site.

Hi Tony,

That did the trick. Deactivated EE3 and EE4 was installed successfully.

Thx,
Marco
