Hi. I am using EE4 and MER in my site, and I noticed that the Automated Upcoming Datetime Notification for attendees was only sent to the primary registrant. I am collecting attendees’ email address with a custom question, because I need to collect attendee #1’s email address apart from the primary registrant’s email address. So here is the question. 1. Is the trigger to send the attendee: the default email address? I really have to solve this problem, so I am very happy if you could help me. Regards. |
Hi there, You can’t trigger the upcoming datetime messages to trigger based on emails set in custom questions. Officially EE doesn’t support separating the Primary Registrant from the actual registrant. Setting up custom questions to collect that data can work in some use cases but not all. The Upcoming Datetime messages pull in registrations and uses each on individually, so whilst you ‘can’ set up the message to send to an email saved within a custom question it means that ALL of your registrants would need to have that same setup for it to work. Meaning if you collect group registrations each individual registrant would have needed to have a custom question for their email address along with the default one.
EE uses the answer to the system questions and the ‘Attendee’/’Registrant’, so in short, yes it uses the default email. The message type pulls in all registrations linked to the datetime, so it doesn’t a question for something like (in English): ‘Give me all of the registrations that relate to the Datetime with ID 999’ It gets a bunch of registrations and loops over each one pulling in the attendee details linked to it (the EE_Contact) which it then uses to generate and send messages to.
Depends on the specifics of your set up here. If EVERY registrant has their email address in a custom question field, then possibly. But you are pushing that add-on into an area it wasn’t expected to be used with which may (or may not) cause various email issues. |

Hi Tony, thank you for your response. I understand how EE works. Thank you for your support, it was really helpful. |
Yeah, that may work better for this type of setup moving forward if all of your registrants then input an email address into a custom field. I can’t say for sure as it is not how that message type was expected to work but, in theory, it sounds correct. |
