I could not find any good documentation on this with Step-By-Step instructions. So I am spending my $70 for a good answer, so I can move on with actually using these products. Part of spending that $70 for this question, is this requirement to start a public support forum topic to create a link for the Support Token form that I am trying to fill out. So, if you buy a Support Token, start your support forum topic link as well, it is a required part of the Support Token request form.

Hi Steve,

Another team member helped you with this earlier today and I’m sharing feedback on why we ask that a support post be created.

First, the support token form is only available if you are logged into your Event Espresso account. Next, the support forums are our primary support tool. It is monitored by team members in different countries and this allows us to respond to your priority support request quickly.

Additionally, it lets us share the solutions here which helps the Event Espresso community.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Lorenzon, Thanks. OK, recap and answers. The support effort and patience of the Event Espresso team is excellent. And I mean team! They had 4 guys working maybe more on my issue, not just one, but 4+. These guys poured into this issue with a real interest in actually solving my issue and take pride in this product. That was great and then they had the technical knowledge to pick the needle out of the haystack. I have not had such a good effort in a very long time.

First the EE 4.4.4 upgrade. The support session was intense and everyone was quickly getting things tested while directing me to try many options. At the same time they were offering good advice about the unseen issues. I had a hard stop and had to leave the support session with no solution. But in that brief sprint of excellent support Josh had guessed correctly about something he could not see or prove. In my moment of pressure I built up another wordpress server and installed the EE 4.4.4, it worked on the new build.

At this point I had enlisted the help of one of my most trusted linux admins to help out. He suggested I do a diff between the new server and the original. This was key, with the fact that Josh had asked me several times about some cache running. I had not installed any cache system to my knowledge. But during the diff between the servers, all the excellent advice I had received in the support session came to the rescue. On the original server I had XCache installed with my php and this was not compatible with EE 4.4.4. So I uninstalled the php XCache, then I was able to proceed with my upgrade, which worked like this:

Step 1: download the EE 4.4.4 plugin file to your computer
Step 2: go to the plugins menu in wordpress
Step 3: deactivate and delete the files of the older EE 4.4.3
Step 4: click on the “add new” button (top of the plugins screen)
Step 5: click on the “upload plugin” button
Step 6: click on the “choose file” button
Step 7: browse to the EE 4.4.4 plugin file you downloaded and select it
Step 8: click on the “Install now” button
Step 9: click on the Activate plugin link

That was it for me EE 4.4.4 installed and activated.

Now the EE 4 Grid Template for EE 4.4.3 and higher

Step 1: download the EE Grid Template file to your computer
Step 2: go to the plugins menu in wordpress
Step 3: click on the “add new” button (top of the plugins screen)
Step 4: click on the “upload plugin” button
Step 5: click on the “choose file” button
Step 6: browse to the EE Grid Template file you downloaded and select it
Step 7: click on the “Install now” button
Step 8: click on the Activate plugin link
Step 9: Add the short code [ESPRESSO_GRID_TEMPLATE] into any page and the grid will pull in your events right there, with no style, but they are there.

Success!

Yes, that is right, the Grid Template is installed through the plugins in wordpress. I had spent hours moving that template in all manner of folders and places with no results, only to learn it was a plugin.

Thanks to all who helped out and provided the many corrective action suggestions today.

Hi Steve,

Caching can be both a blessing and a curse.

Most users opt for front-end caching, then exclude EE from that, this is a little easier to spot as generally you will be using some form of plugin to do so (W3 Total Cache for example). Server side caching can cause some weird and wonderful issues even in places you would not expect (such as yours), even more so when it was not knowingly installed/activated.

Thank you for the feedback, we are all happy we could help get you back up and running with Event Espresso. If there is anything else we can help you with just let us know.

Have a great weekend!
