Help. We opened registration for a major event today and students are receiving an error message stating – an error has occured, the email did not send successfully. The WordPress wp_mail function is used….

Hi there,
The above error mails your emails are failing after EE has passed them over to wp_mail() to do whatever your sever is set up to do with them.
Have you tested emails previously and confirm they work?
Do other emails such as password resets work on your site?
If you go to Event Espresso -> Messages-> Settings
What is the option ‘Generate and send messages’ set to?
