How hard would it be to change to a new theme? I do have some php work that I’ve had done, but I’m hating the Conference Pro Theme. I’m having to make too many CSS changes to get what I need with the design. What would I have to go through to change over to Divi? Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks,
Laura
Site is tocift.org, but it is in maintenance mode at the moment, because we are between events.
How hard it will be to switch to X theme to Y theme isn’t really something we can give you an answer to as it depends on the specific theme features you are using and how you are using them if it’s going to cause you any problems in general.
What I can tell you is Event Espresso doesn’t have any theme-specific functions within it so you are free to use any theme without any restrictions from Event Espresso itself. However your theme control’s all of the output on your site, EE hooks into the_content (which pretty much every theme should use, but not all do) to inject the additional event details, so how EE will be output depends very much on what your theme is doing.
You mention you’ve done some custom php work done, if that was created to change something specific to your theme then that’s unlikely to apply to the new one.
What I would do is create a development copy of the site and just switch over to Divi on that site to see how it looks and the effect it has on your site as whole. Then work through from there to see if it’s a theme you want to continue to use or not, test an EE registration along with any other functions you have on your site to confirm they still work, then work on the actual presentation from there.
(Why a new site? Because Divi is going to save all kinds of settings etc to your database and if you decided now to use it you then don’t need to clean the database of those values)
