Note: I searched for options within the support forum, but it is tough to filter those forum results reverse chronologically. (Can we fix that by the way?) As a result, I am adding this new support thread (sorry if it does duplicate other recent questions)…

Right now, I only use PayPal as the option, but we might be using other payment methods in the future. The company wants to cover the PayPal fees (or approximately 3%), but I still cannot locate an option within the payment methods section of the EE 4.0 platform. Is there a better add-on or setting that I need to look for and change to make this possible?

Thanks again for your time and attention!

Hi Dwayne,

You can add a 3% surcharge fee to the ticket price by editing the ticket in the event editor. The Price modifier options appear after you click on the gear icon. You’ll note that you can also make the price modifier a default price so it’s always included when you create a new event/ticket.

I see the surcharge, but it just bumps up the price without showing the fee separate. Also, what if I use two different types of payment options and need different surcharges for each?

If you use two different types of payment options and need different surcharges for each then you can hire a PHP developer to build out a custom solution that will add those fees separately. Event Espresso does not have a feature that makes it so fees can get switched on the fly depending on the selection of the payment option.

Does Event Espresso have a setting that at least separates the fee from the ticket price so we can show and break down the purchaser the two separately?

In Event Espresso > Events > Templates, there’s a setting “Show Ticket Details?” that you set to Yes. Then the purchaser can click on Show Details in the ticket row and that will open a panel that will display a breakdown that includes any surcharge fees.

Along with that, the fees are displayed as line items later in a table in the Payment Options step.
