I used to have my EE event (course) list on a separate page (Kursangebot) but made that the Home page. Now the registration links go to Nirvana (../kurse/kurs01 etc.) Where is that directory ‘kurse’ defined? How can I change the links? (See https://www.lernen-im-quartier.ch/)

Ok, ‘kurse’ is going to be your event slug, it’s the rewrite rule used by WordPress for your espresso_event posts (EE Events).
What exactly did you change for the above to happen?

I’ve managed to revert to a working state (as before my change). I have a Home page in many languages and a page of events (courses; ‘kursangebot’) generated by EE. To simplify usage on mobile phones, I wanted to set the course list to be the Home page. That looked OK, but then the registration links (Anmelden) for any particular course failed to find the course at ../kurse/kurs01 etc. (although the EE slug was always set to kurse).
So how can I show the course list as the Home page and have registration working?

Those slugs don’t match so you should be able to set the above to the home page.
DId you try flushing your permalinks after the changes?
Set your home page to what you wanted it to be and then go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks.
Make no changes and hit save, does it work then?
