In my Google Search Console, I’m seeing that it is reporting a lot of 404 errors related to Event Espresso.

Here’s an example of one of the crawl errors:
/theatre.php?date=2041-02
/programmation.php?date=2093-08

Now, obviously my client doesn’t have events in February 2041 or August 2093 scheduled. My question is, why is Google’s crawler finding these pages at all?

I feel like having all of these 404s may have negative implications on the site’s SEO. Is there a way to prevent Google from crawling decades into the future for each event category and reporting back every 404?

Hi there,

May I ask how are those crawl errors related to Event Espresso? The reason I ask is Event Espresso does not set or use a date= query parameter.

You’re right! Apologies! This seems to be Google’s search bot checking in on URLs that used to exist on the previous site that used a different event manager. The Search Console 404 results didn’t list a URL or sitemap file that the crawl errors were linking from. Apparently this Google just periodically checks on old URLs. It would be nice of them if they would be clear about what these 404s actually are rather than just sending an email with the subject: “Increase in 404 pages on http://my-domain.com”.

Thanks for your quick reply!
