Hi,

Google Maps aren’t showing for me after I just upgraded. I went straight from a recent 4.10 to 5.0.3, everything was fine beforehand.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Brooke

Hi Brooke,

How are you today? A couple questions:
– Is there an address in the venue editor?
– Are maps turned on in the venue editor?
– Does the event have the venue selected in the event editor?
– Do you have API keys added to the Google Maps settings of Event Espresso?

Once you confirm those settings, do you have an example event page we can look at?

Hi Garth,

Thanks for the reply, I’m fine thanks. I’ll come back to each of your questions:

– yes, venues had addresses prior to the upgrade and they are still there. The address is still showing on the venue pages, but if you look at this link as an example of our venue pages you’ll see a big grey space where the maps used to be. It’s the same for all my venue pages.

– are google maps turned on? Yes, it was before and it is now. This is true for each venue individually and on the “Activate Google Maps” tab.

– does the event have the venue selected in the event editor? Yes it did before the update and it does now, no changes. However I don’t show google maps on each event, I link each event to its venue page. The venue pages no longer show any google maps.

– Do you have API keys added to Google Maps settings of Event Espresso? Yes, they were in place before the update and everything was working fine, they are still in place and now they are not showing.

Additional info: I use Beaver Builder, but I’ve tried de-activating it and clearing the caches but that didn’t make any difference.

Let me know if there’s any more info that might help solve the issue.

Thanks,

Brooke

Hi Brooke,

Looks like you have autooptimiz installed on the site and its machine all of the JS files into a single files loading AFTER the gmap call.

Google Maps changed how maps work and we have to specify a ‘callback’ function to run when the map is generated, we did this in v5 but in the above situation when the Google Maps library tried to call the function, it hasn’t been loaded on the page yet.

Are you using the latest version of AutoOptmize?

I’ve just installed it and checked it on one of my tested sites, it loads the files differently to how your site is so wondering if that’s a different version.

If you go to Dashboard -> Settings -> Autoptimize.

JS, CSS & HTML settings.

Uncheck ‘Optimize JavaScript Code?’ and save.

Does the Venue Map work then?

Hi Tony,

Brilliant, yes we’re on the latest version and yes that’s resolved the issue, thank you!

Best wishes,

Brooke

Hmm, odd that it doesn’t break for me then with the same version (could be a setting somewhere!).

Something else you can try other than just completely disabling the feature is add ee_gmap.js into the exclude section and re-enabled it. That should leave the EE JS file for Google maps alone and ‘should’ fix it.
