Whilst nothing particular wrong with doing the above, if you get the same error in the console then you just need to enable billing within your Google account and allow the key access to the API’s rather than manually adding the embed each time.
I do have billing enabled, so I’m somewhat at a loss. At least I thin I have it enabled – the google site is incredibly unclear… I’ll try the embed code.
If you log into your Google Cloud Platform, select your project in the dropdown at the top of the page (next to the title).
Click the menu icon (top right).
Scroll down to Google Maps and hover over that, then APIs
