We are working on the Promotions add-on which will let you use promotion codes. Can you describe how a gift certificate might be different than a discount/promotion code?
Hi Garth,
well I think they are more or less completely different: With a promotional code you can give your clients some “20% off” discounts e.g.
A gift certificate is more a product that someone can buy, with a certain self-given value, for example 50$ and then donate it to another person.
For the gift voucher you can set up a small shop, maybe with woocommerce or EDD, but the client can’t pay in EE with the cert.
I can imagine that a possibility is to paste the generated codes “by hand” in the promotional code plugn that you’ve mentioned, so the client could pay with this code. But I think this could be a little tedious…
Maybe an approach to this could be to make an WC or EDD Extension to connect a Gift Cert Product with an EE.
Another approach is to have a kind of special event in EE, whereby the client can set the price height (value of the gift cert) and which generates a code which you can use to book other events. Mybe this one is a little bit more straight forward and doesn’t depend on third party plugins.
Thanks for the feedback. The other idea that we’re looking at is making an importer for promo codes. This way a batch of one time use codes that have a specific value can be uploaded all at once.
