On occasion, when trying to edit a registrant’s answer from a question group, after clicking “Update Registration Question” I’m given an error screen that says “Not Acceptable: An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.” This doesn’t happen all the time, but is happening specifically with one registrant. I have the latest WordPress and EventEspresso versions. |
Hi Jon, Is there anything that stands out about this registrant as compared to other registrants? — |
Not that I can see. |
Actually, I just noticed something. One of my questions requires a URL as a response. Removing the URL from their response allows me to update any other responses successfully. After updating the other responses I tried to add the URL back into their response and it gives me the same error. So ultimately I was able to update the answer in question…however now the registration doesn’t have the URL. |
Hi, Could you try this quick test: If the entry is something like this: Could you enter the following: Then does it trigger the mod_security issue? Mod_security is something that is set on the server but I’d like to confirm that this is indeed causing it. — |

It’s the http:// that’s throwing it. http://www.test.com, test.com, testdotcom – they all work. As soon as I add the http:// to any of the combinations, it throws the error. |

Hi, This may be a possible solution: https://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/apache-mod-security-update-how-to-fix-error-406-or-not-acceptable-issue-259 Otherwise you may need to refer to your host. |
Well, I’m far from a web developer so I don’t know what to do with that, even if it’s an easy fix. For the time being I’ll just remove the http:// whenever I’m updating a record that includes a URL. |
Hi Jon, Were you able to check with your webhost on this? — |
Lorenzo – I’m chatting with customer support right now actually. I’ll let you know. |

I actually thought this was my other thread about getting a white page when trying to export my attendees to a CSV. Regardless, I’ve upgraded from basic shared hosting to a virtual private server which will migrate tonight. I’ll see if this remedies some of my problems. |
Hi Jon, A VPS isn’t required to use Event Espresso. Did your web host ask you to migrate to a more powerful server? — |
No, but among the number of issues I’ve been having with EE3/EE4 (I upgraded and the problems persisted), one was that I could export my registrants to CSV. It would “connect” for a few minutes, then send me to a blank white screen, which is most cases prompts the Save As dialogue box, but in this case I get nothing. I don’t mean to threadjack (my own thread) here, so that conversation is happening at – https://eventespresso.com/topic/cant-export-registrants-to-csv-kicks-blank-white-screen/#post-111297 However, there Josh told me, “I think the way forward for you will be to contact your host and ask about upgrading the server to have more memory capacity.” So I contacted Bluehost and discussed upgrade options. I opted for the VPS. As for THIS problem, where the http:// was kicking me back an error, I’ve just worked around it by removing the http:// and leaving the http://www.whatever… if I need to update a record. I don’t really know what I’m supposed to ask my host about regarding this specific problem. |

*couldn’t |

Hi Jon, Regarding your host you just need to tell them about the issue and provide them with the error message. While they won’t know anything about EE, the issue is coming from the server so they should be able to provide some feedback about why mod_security is sending this error. Most likely either a PHP module isn’t installed or it’s a setting issue. |

Okay. Will do. Thanks. |
