Hi,

We’re getting complaints that some people can’t register for our event. They get this error message: “This registration step could not be completed. Please refresh the page and try again.”

We have received several registrations this week so I know it isn’t an issue for everyone. And when I do a test registration it works fine. But still, some people are having trouble and I don’t know what to tell them. I don’t think it’s the character count limit since that gives a different error message.

Do you have any advice on what I can tell people to help get their registration through? The application is at http://slicelitcon.org/apply/. I’ve received complaints regarding the last ticket on the list (student scholarship application).

Thanks in advance!
Maria

Hi Maria,

I just ran a test registration on that ticket and it worked.

So lefts start by checking the available memory for your site.

Go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System information.

In that section search for ‘wp_memory’ and ‘memory_limit’

Can you post up the values for both of those please?

Ah, that might be it… Those fields say:

wp_memory: 40M – We recommend setting memory to at least 64MB. See: Increasing memory allocated to PHP

memory_limit:
global_value 256M
local_value 256M
access 7

What should I do?

Thanks so much!

You can increase the amount of memory available for WordPress by following this guide:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

You can use an [FTP client][1] and [a text editor][2] to edit the site’s wp-config.php file:

Thank you, Josh! We increased our memory but the person is still having problems. We are getting several applications daily so I know our system does work. Is there anything else we can recommend to this person? Or anything else we can do?

If it’s one individual that’s having problems with registering, you could ask them to visit http://supportdetails.com/ and ask them to send the details about their browser to you. So for example, with the info you get from them, you’ll find out that they have JavaScript disabled. So then you can tell them they’ll need to enable JavaScript in their browser.
