Hi,

I’m having an issue where after updating WordPress, and then event espresso, EE has dropped its general settings, and now won’t let me save any changes to the general settings.

This means I’m screwed as the plugin is using the wrong currency for everything and this follows thru to the forms. And potentially stripe.

I’ve no idea why it’s just event espresso which has this problem!

How do I best debug?

Hi there,

Does all of the General Settings page load when you view it or does it seem to stop somewhere within the page? The bottom of General Settings should look something like this – http://take.ms/D1x0K

If you enable WP_DEBUG on the site and retest saving the General Settings (or just loading the General Settings page), do you see any errors there?

Hey Tony,

Appreciate the response. We figured it out. When all the settings are dropped it also drops the £ symbol out of country settings meaning it wuld t commit the changes as its on a different tab. It says it’s committed the changes even though the currency being wrong seems to stop t. Should I submit a bug?

I’m finding this really odd. Why would WordPress drop all of these settings in these places every time an update is deployed? I’ve never had this on other WordPress sites. I’m wondering if it’s something I’ve done somewhere but can’t think what. I should say that EE is not the only plugin with the problem on the site but I’ve only had the problem on sites with ee installed

Any thoughts anyone?

That’s shouldn’t happen and is not something we’ve seen before. It sounds like an issue with the site itself rather than EE, especially as its happening for other plugins.

How many sites has this happened on?

Just this one. I have three other sites on the same hosting without EE installed which don’t have the issue. I agree this could be some weird oddity. I’d really love a way to debug it as it makes upgrading the live site a fraught and stressful process. Any thoughts on how I can debug? Maybe I need to stick wp_debug on next time I upgrade?

NB: I do have a multi site install in root I used initially, which has EE on which showed the same problems.

It seems to cause the system to throw lots of php errors on update too… I mean to say afterwards it says about I handled / empty for each, and a session header already sent error. So I can’t update unless I have a corresponding EE update otherwise it all goes to hell!

I do have word fence installed with a custom HTACCESS rule set – but I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I can advise that you check with your host and give them a timeframe of when you were running into these errors to see if they can check the entries in your server’s mod_security logs. If they can identify a specific rule you’re tripping, they may be willing to disable it for you.
