For FirstData and the .pem file, I see it can be downloaded from the support >> download center from First Data. The problem is it’s saying “the API is not setup”. My client called and they gave her API information – is any of this necessary to work with Event Espresso? Or should I just need to download that file for integration? Thanks |
Hi Andrea, The Payments settings in Event Espresso for the original First Data gateway require the First Data Store Number. If it’s not letting you download a PEM file you may need to supply the actual SSN or Tax ID which they submitted during the merchant account boarding process. One other thing to check is whether this is a First Data E4 account or not. If it’s an E4 account, and from what I understand most new accounts are, then you don’t need a PEM file. FirstData E4 settings appear immediately after the original FD settings on the Event Espresso Payments settings page, where you’ll enter the E4 payment page ID, the E4 Transaction key, and log into the FD account and enter the Relay Response URL. |

For anyone searching this in the future, it looks like it’s a First Data issue. Our client is using the older linkpoint/virtual terminal First Data that they set up about 4 years ago, not E4. So they do need that .pem file, within the First Data control even when entering the SSN it still gives an error. I was told by First Data that it’s something they need to “turn on” on their side with the API whereas with E4 the API information is entered client side in Event Espresso(which I see). Unfortunately after speaking with First Data for over an hour and getting transferred to 4 different people it appears no one has the knowledge of how to actually enable the API for the .pem file. Global Gateway sent me to Virtual Terminal to someone else who said I need a “bar sheet” from the sales rep. Speaking with the sales rep he said he’s a sales rep – they can’t do anything technical. So…long story short, it appears that using First Data with E4 or using their older system and integrating Authorize.net would be the best options available. For purposes of launching the product we’ll be using paypal for now. |
Thanks for sharing your findings. I do know that the linkpoint api was deprecated some time ago in favor of the newer E4 platform. — |
