WordPress version 3.9.1 with Twenty Twelve theme Hello, Add Featured Image to an event post has stopped working. I have used this feature for many months without a problem. As of yesterday it does not work for me. I can’t think of anything that I would have changed. What causes this? Thank you – Marcia |
Hi, Could you temporarily deactivate all plugins and reactivate Event Espresso? Then please re-test. Does it then work as expected? Be sure to restore your other plugins after testing. — |

Hi Lorenzo, This is a production site for our business. I can’t deactivate all of the plugins without totally disrupting our business. If there isn’t another way to figure this out, I’ll need to wait until early tomorrow morning. I’d like to be sure of what you want me to do so that I only have to do it once. Do I deactivate all of the event espresso plugins? (Will that lose any information that I need to recreate once I reactive them?) Do I only reactivate the main Event Espresso plug in before testing or do I reactive all of the Event Espresso plugins and then test? Then I assume I reactivate the other plug ins one by one and test? Do I understand what you are wanting me to do? Thanks – Marcia |
Hello, That is the same way that I would test. Temporarily deactivate all plugins, then reactivate Event Espresso. From here reactivate the remain plugins individually and check the feature image option to see if its working. Deactivating a plugin should not remove any data. This temporarily disables a plugin and is different than deleting a plugin. We aren’t asking you to delete any plugins and this test will rule out a plugin conflict. — |

Good morning Lorenzo, I deactivated all of the plugins on our site this morning. Then I actived the main Event Espresso plugin. I still was not able to load a featured image. So this problem must not be a plugin conflict. Thanks – Marcia |

It’s a good general website administration rule to always have a development version of the site set up. You should be able to set up a subdomain like development.mysite.com or beta.mysite.com that loads a copy of the site’s files and a copy of the site’s DB. If you have trouble setting it up, your host should be able to help out. |

Hi Sidney, Sorry about the vague problem description. I saw the problem while editing an espresso event. I just tried the adding a Featured Image to a post and that works fine. Here is what happens on Windows 8. The dialog opens when the “Upload Image” button is clicked. I have tried all three ways to choose an image (from computer, from URL, and media library). The dialog seems to be functioning ok and I can choose an image any of these ways. When “Insert into Post” is clicked the dialog goes away but no picture appears in the Featured Image box. I tried updating the event just in case the image was there but just not being displayed, but no image is used on the registration page. I have tried this in different browsers and on computers with different operating systems. On my apple a small blue rectangle with a ? in it appears in the Featured Image box instead of the chosen image. I can send you a screen shot of that if you would like it. If I update the event the ? rectangle goes away. Thanks – Marcia |
Hi there, Could you please create a temporary WordPress admin login so we can take a closer look at this issue? I’ll try this out with a draft event (unpublished test event). Please share that temporary login through the secure link below: To prevent delays in troubleshooting, be sure to double check your information on the form before submitting. The submit button for the form appears after you have answered “Yes” to the last question. Thank you. — |

Good morning Lorenzo! While testing a temporary admin account that I created, I found out more. When logged in with the temporary account, the featured images loaded just fine into a draft event. So I logged out and back in with my account and the featured images did not load (in a draft event). I went back and forth a couple of times with the same results. So, I am about to submit you login information that will take you into the original account (with a temporary password). With that account the featured images don’t load. If you want login info for the temp account that does load featured images, just let me know. Thanks – Marcia |

Just sent login for the temp account that did load featured images this morning. Thanks – Marcia |

Good Morning Lorenzo, I changed to a new admin account per your email instructions. That does fix the problem as the new account works. What happened to the original one? Why did it stop supporting this feature? Thanks – Marcia |
Hi Marcia, It’s very likely that the other account would have still worked, but somewhere along the way the Link URL selection was set to something other than “File URL”. If it’s set to None or Attachment Post URL the event will display the blue box you were seeing. The WordPress featured image uploader will give you a few options on how to display the featured image. If you’re adding a featured image to an event, the Link URL option needs to be set to File URL. Here’s a screenshot that shows the Featured image dialog with the File URL button highlighted in blue. Hope that helps! |

Thanks! That is very helpful to know not to change. 🙂 |
