I’ve had a few teething issues with a new installation of EE and trying to get it to work correctly under a Kadence Virtue Premium theme.
At the moment, it won’t include the Featured Image in the event page or listings (works OK in a default theme however). I’ve looked at some of the previous fixes and they don’t appear to solve this issue. I did notice some posts referring to template settings which have a Featured Image switch, but I’m unable to see that in my template settings section.

Does your theme allow for setting featured images for regular WordPress posts? If so, the theme might have some code that’s designed to remove support for featured images in custom post types (in this case, espresso_events). The way forward is check with the theme support staff to see if there’s a way to filter/disable that code to allow featured images for custom post types.

I’ve actually managed to solve my own issue (but you put me on the right track). For anyone else that’s encountered this issue, go to Theme Options > Blog Options > Blog Post Defaults and select ‘Image’ where necessary.
