Recently switched from EE4 to EE3 in order to use the GROUPON plug in. Really struggling to upload featured photos to our event pages, which is a big deal since we’re a paint and sip event company and our customers need to be able to see which image they’re registering to paint. I’ve tried a variety of troubleshooting tips suggested on a previous forum, specifically updating the admin so there’s only one, trying from multiple different computers including my Macbook Pro (which is the only computer system my partner and I use, so it ultimately has to work from a mac laptop), my iPhone 5s and a PC. I used all of the search engines suggested in the afore mentioned forum, but none of those worked either. Stranger still, a computer programmer friend of mine helped me install EE3 (and basically the whole site) and he was able to add featured images no problem. What am I missing? And please help soon since we’re a small business which can’t afford to lose any customers. |
Hello,
Could you try a different web browser than the one that you are currently using? I’m wondering if there is a browser extension that may be interfering since your friend was able to upload an image without an issue. I use a Macbook and I was able to upload an image on our testing site via Safari. — |

Hello Lorenzo:
I tried using all of the browsers you suggested to Shane in your forum last spring, except Opera (which I tried downloading and couldn’t). No luck. I tried using several different platforms from a PC as well. Nope. My business partner has a Macbook air and she is not able to load images either. Like Shane indicated, all of the images are showing up as either a broken image icon or a blue square with a question mark. |
Hi Alison, Can you go to /wp-admin/options.php within your site. So you’ll have yourdomain.com/wp-admin/options.php Within that section search for ‘image_default_link_type’ Does it show ‘file’? If not, type ‘file’ (without the quotes) in the field and hit save. (double check if it actually saves after clicking and the page reloads) If you create a new temporary admin account, log out of your account and log into that. Can that admin account upload feature images? |

Tony: Thank you so much for your suggestions, but neither thing worked! Can you please take another look at it? Best Regards |
So did it say file within ‘image_default_link_type’ or was it blank? If you install a plugin such as User Role Editor on your site and then go to Dashboard -> Users. Find your user account within the list and then click on ‘Capabilities’ to view that users caps. It should look like this – http://take.ms/cmxia Notice my name at the top because I am editing my user account, make sure your editing the correct account. Check for the uploads_files capability there, is it checked or unchecked? |

Tony: Thanks so much for getting back with me! The ‘image_default_link_type’ section was blank. I’m having trouble downloading the User Role Editor to my Mac. Do you know whether it’s compatible? I’m going to ask for some guidance on that last suggestion and I’ll back with you directly. |
It’s a plugin that you can install directly on your site. Go to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New. Type ‘User role editor’ in the search bar – http://take.ms/BVrPp (Where mine says ‘Update’ yours will say install) |

So ultimately, how we were able to get the featured photos to show is when we’re adding the featured image, I had to select the “file url” button prior to selecting “insert into post” in the “media library” section of the window that pops up. |
