When I try to transfer a registrant from one event to the next, I get an error message “There has been a critical error on this website. Please check your site admin email inbox for instructions.” but there are no instructions. We use this feature daily, so need this resolved as soon as possible please!

Hi there,

Do you get the error as soon as you click on the attendee mover icon or at some other point during the move?

Do you know if you server is running PHP8?

You can check if you go to Event Espresso -> Maintenance -> System information.

Search for ‘php version’, what does it return?

If its PHP8+ that is likely the issue as EE is not fully compatible with PHP8 at this time, you’ll need to switch the server to use PHP7. If your host does not have an option for you to select the PHP version in your control panel then open a support request them and they should be able to switch it over for you.

So when I go to System information there is no Search function. If I look at the section called “eea attendee mover/eea attendee mover.php” it says the version is
1.0.6.p and the name is “Event Espresso – Attendee Mover (EE4.10.14+)”

The error we get comes as soon as we click on the little transfer icon (with the two arrows).

How shall I proceed?

Thanks!
Brooke

Hi Brook,

Apologies, I meant search using your browser’s search function and for me on Chrome that’s CTRL+F, then enter ‘php version’ into the field that opens.

Like this: https://monosnap.com/file/2eq8OyzrGQZUATTRGX8gojO7we9CUa

If you are getting the error as soon as you click the button it’s likely your server is running PHP8.

Ok when I do that it says 8.0.14 so I guess that is what your hunch was telling you. Thank you for the clear instruction. So we will need to switch to PHP7 then? Thank you!

Yeah, that’s it.

Sounds like your host has recently updated the server to use PHP8 and yes, you’ll need to switch back to PHP7.

Latest version of PHP7 works fine with Event Espresso.
