I saw a couple other threads discussing sharing events on facebook but couldn’t find a good solution. It appears that because the page uses a query string instead of a unique page id that Facebook doesn’t display the correct event data.

Is there a solution for this issue yet? (Other than updating to EE4)

Hi David,

Those may have been some older threads. There was some work done to add support for the Open Graph Meta tags in the social buttons add-on. Are you using the social buttons add-on?

We are using the Social Buttons add-ons. Here is an example url – http://www.nextstepucenters.com/courses/?ee=29

You’ll notice that the Open Graph tag is pulling in the appropriate og title however, when the same url is pasted to share it via facebook it pulls in the the following event for every event shared
“NextStepU Career Readiness: Job Market Re-Entry & Career Change – Part 3”

Hi David,

I tried liking that event in Facebook and when I posted it to a Facebook account timeline the URL took it back to:

http://www.nextstepucenters.com/courses/?ee=29&fb_action_ids=725142810843252&fb_action_types=og.likes&fb_source=feed_opengraph&action_object_map=%7B%22725142810843252%22%3A621611731240867%7D&action_type_map=%7B%22725142810843252%22%3A%22og.likes%22%7D&action_ref_map=%5B%5D

This doesn’t seem broken to me. Maybe you’re trying to do something else. If that’s the case then Event Espresso 4 may be the solution for you because in Event Espresso 4 all events are custom post types and there are not any query strings for events.

Ok scratch that. This looks like it’s a facebook issue. Whenever I try to paste an event into facebook it defaults to the same event. But if I run the event through Their Open Graph Debugger then try to share the event it works. It’s almost as if Facebook is using a cached event rather than looking to see if there is new data. This is very strange.

Hi there David,

I also took a look at this with the object debugger tool and it is retrieving the correct information:

https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/og/object?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nextstepucenters.com%2Fcourses%2F%3Fee%3D29

Did you need any further help with this issue?
