From the 14th to the 15th of this month most of the transactions made via paypal standard on our site were overcharged by 10% for some mysterious reason. I say most because it wasn’t for the entire day, but all the overcharges seemed to happen sequentially rather than intermittently, then just stopped. I’m at a loss as to why. Any ideas?

Also we’re still having ongoing issues with some transactions as mentined in this thread: https://eventespresso.com/topic/amount-paid-for-the-transaction-was-not-updated/

I can’t reply there because it’s been too long (we got locked out of replying here for a while which didn’t help), but in reply to the last question asked there

When these transactions happen how long is it before you update them?

Anywhere between 12 and 48 hours later generally.

Also we’re randomly getting messages on our site’s backend telling us there is an upgrade for event espresso but our key isn’t valid, or something to that effect. Needless to say, our key is valid.

If you view the transaction for one of these registrations and check the payment shown there, does it show overpaid?

It sounds like something went wrong on PayPals end but if you could send temporary login details using this form:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

I’ll check over the payment logs for one of these transactions and see if there are any clues there.

I can’t reply there because it’s been too long (we got locked out of replying here for a while which didn’t help), but in reply to the last question asked there

I’ve re-opened that thread.

Rather than split the replies across here, please reply there so we can continue to troubleshoot.

I have reset your license key.

You’ll need to go to Event Espresso -> General Settings.

Remove the license key (cut), save the settings, replace the key (paste) and save the settings once more. Be sure to check for whitespace before/after the key before saving.

You will also receive an email with these instructions.

If you continue to have problems please let me know.

Yep, that’s exactly how we spotted the issue, we had a bunch of overpaid transactions.

It sounds like something went wrong on PayPals end but if you could send temporary login details using this form:

I agree it does seem like a paypal issue, but PayPal hasn’t reported any such errors, and I haven’t been able to find any other reports of this issue happening to other people, which you generally can when PayPal stuffs something up. I’ll send you a temporary login in a moment.

Will do, thanks.

I have reset your license key.

Thanks for that, I’ve re-applied the key on the site, so hopefully that’ll be sorted now.

So I had a look over some of your payment logs on the 14th and 15th and this does seem to be from PayPal.

EE logs the details it uses to initiate the payment with PayPal – http://take.ms/yX7dB
(Note the TXN_total value, that’s the value sent to PayPal for the full transaction)

Then PayPal does its thing and EE logs the response – http://take.ms/6YuyU

Note that payment difference? That’s been added from PayPal, as there’s no record of it within the transaction EE shows it as an overpayment.

That’s for the EE transaction id 23558 if you take a look within that transaction you’ll find the PayPal payment, with its own TXN ID. (I haven’t posted here as the forums are public)

Search for that transactions within PayPal and see if tit shows any record of sales tax etc being added on.

PayPal can be setup to automatically calculate sales tax for certain locations:

https://developer.paypal.com/docs/classic/paypal-payments-standard/integration-guide/ProfileAndTools/#calculate-sales-tax-automatically

Do you have that setup within your account?
