When registration presses proceed to payment options an error message appears that says “an error has occurred, first name is a required value” (The first name has been entered….) All the values go blank and the registrant has to go through the form all over again. This is a loop that just keeps going… I’ve tried it myself on two different computers as well.

Not sure what is going on…

(In one of the edit question groups tab, where I select the questions, I have selected first name, last name, email address, and confirm email address. The checks next to first name and email address are lighter than the checks next to last name and confirm email address. Also the first name and email address box cannot be unchecked whereas last name and confirm email address boxes can be unchecked. This is probably related to required system questions).

The system was working very well…. until now and as far as I recall I didn’t make any changes…

Please help. It is truly inconvenient for my registrants to have to wade through this loop (my registration form asks for quite a bit of information) a few times because they think they are doing something wrong, only to get frustrated after about the 4th time through …

Hi Irene,

Have you recently updated your theme?

The reason I ask is there is a JavaScript error being thrown on the page – http://take.ms/7i9Pa

It seems to be from the responsive-scripts.min.js file within your theme.

If you preview the event in a default theme such as TwentyFourteen (Dashboard -> Themes -> Hover over theme -> Live Preview) does the registration form work as expected?

Wow, that’s a response with a lot of greek in it Tony. I have to think my way through that one. I could well have done an update. I may need to consult with my web person on this end.

I don’t have time right now as event preparations are in full swing and that’s where my attention is. So I need to leave this issue until my event is over (May 2). Fortunately registration is full or almost full anyway.

A thought occurred to me though… I did look at the beta version of something event espresso and may even have downloaded and installed it (I can’t quite remember). I haven’t used it. Wondering though, if the beta thing is installed, could that have caused a problem?

Hi Irene,

The href= part of the error that Tony shared a screenshot of sounds similar to something that could appear if you updated to WP 4.5 and your theme was out of date.

Could you share this link with your web professional?

Will do Lorenzo… But I think the problem is fixed. At the advice of an email that my web person sent to all her clients I deactivated the plug in called “dynamic to top” and replaced it with “back-to-top” and after that it appears someone else successfully registered. Of course corelation doesn’t confirm causality… but who knows…

I’ll check into everything further next week.

Thanks, Irene

One of the latest reviews (possibly even from your web person) for that plugin states it causes JavaScript errors which would cause the First Name error you mentioned if happening on the EE registration form so its possible 🙂

Please do let us know if you have further problems.
