I’ve read several other post here about this and checked my settings on the widget. The date the tickets are set to no longer be sold is Sept. 15th, but the event/class doesn’t end until the end of October – but shouldn’t it stop showing as an upcoming event when the sale date is past?

That’s strange. It seems that the setting might not be working properly. I adjusted the setting on a local test website by switching the show expired events to “No”, but the widget is not showing the expired events.
I’ll create a ticket for the developer’s.

Actually, false alarm on my end. I was on the same page as the event I was trying to test, so that event wasn’t appearing in the widget no matter what, which is expected behavior.
I also re-read your initial post as I was a little mixed up. Sorry about that! I think it’s standard for the widget to show the upcoming events, as long as the event date hasn’t passed. The ticket sales dates do not control the display of the event in the widgets, or the calendar.

That seems strange tho doesn’t it? Why advertise an event that a person can no longer buy tickets to? At least there should be a way for it to say “sold out” or something??

We’ve actually had people tell us that when an upcoming event disappears from the upcoming events list, then the people that bought tickets call in and ask if the event got cancelled, because they didn’t see it in the upcoming event list anymore.
So the idea is to show all upcoming events in the widget, regardless of whether you can still register for them or not. Once the event is passed, it automatically gets removed from the display.
What we can do is add a filter hook to the upcoming events widget code so that customizations along the lines of “make it not show events that can’t be registered for anymore” can be made without directly altering the core files. I’ll update this post when we have something that’s ready.
