Is there a way to have expired events have a “noindex” metatag? Google is showing my expired events in searches.

Yes there is a way. You add this code to your website:

You can add the above to a functions plugin or into your WordPress theme’s functions.php file.

Question – I have the Code Snippets plugin installed. If I add a new snippet, should I exclude the <?php ?

We don’t provide support for that plugin, so it would be a question you ask the plugin’s author.

However, I had a quick look at their support posts and screenshots, it appears you should exclude the php tag as far as I can tell. Note you’ll likely need FTP access to the site to get the site back up and running if you use the incorrect syntax on the snippets.

Creating a Custom Functions Plugin and adding your functions to that would actually be a little fast than using the above as the snippets are stored in the DB and need to be pulled in on every request.
