As soon as I update anything (not ee) I get following error and the plugins ee-core and ee-calendar are stopped.

Hi there,
The above error means 2 things.
1. The update data saved within your site is returning false, which EE is not expecting currently.
2. Your server is running PHP8+
For #1, do you have any plugins/custom code blocking updates on the site? I’ll create a ticket to prevent that fatal from happening in the next version fo Event Espresso, however…
For #2 I’d recommend contacting your host and have them switch your site to use PHP7.4 as Event Espresso is not fully compatible with PHP8 at this time.
