Hello, We are having an issue where our event pages display a 404 error message. This happens intermittently and seems to resolve on its own after a number of hours. This has been disruptive to promotion and registration so we are hoping to resolve the issue as smoothly as possible. Everything on the site is up-to-date and I will paste the list of plugins below. Resetting permalinks, editing events, and hard-refreshing the page does not help. Then, without any clear action on our part, the page will start working within a few hours. Any help you can provide would be extremely helpful. Thanks so much! Active Plugins Inactive Plugins |
Hi there, Usually, 404 errors on event URL’s is an issue with permalinks, I know you’ve mentioned you flushed the permalinks and nothing change but thats the usual suspect. Often other plugins hook in an flush the permalinks at unexpected times so then EE re-write rules are lost. Flush permalinks can usually fix that, but it really depends on what the other plugin is doing if that the case. So one way to test is this is a ‘pretty’ permalink issue is to try visiting the ‘ugly’ version of the link, for example if you event link is: domain.com/events/my-example-event Then you event slug us ‘my-example-event’ and you can test the ‘ugly’ version my navigating to domain.com/?espresso_events={event_slug}, so: domain.com/?espresso_events=my-example-event If that works when the pretty version doesn’t its an issue with rewrite rules. However, the fact that you say it doesn’t work when you flush permalinks and then randomly fixes itself would lead me to another possibility, and that is your host. We’ve seen other reports of this, but heres a quick one: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22183876/wordpress-randomly-returning-404#answer-28007791 So something on the server-side may be blocking the requests for X number of minutes and during that time you get 404 errors. I can’t really say if that’s the cause and it seems a little of a stretch for it to last so long, but it’s worth double-checking with your hosts to confirm your site isn’t hitting some kind of limit and then requests are dropped. |
