We are a small membership organisation. I have often used Eventbrite to get tickets for all sorts of events, and I like the standardisation and simplicity you get. Almost no matter what you book, or with whom, the customer receives a pretty standard booking confirmation.
I have tried to set up a ticketing system using EE but I have found that it seems to need (a) a lot of knowledge and (b) a lot of customisation to whip the basics into a simple, consistent system.
Has anyone perhaps created a data driven customisation of EE that mimics the basic EB functions?

Can you add more details on both of those points, please?
When users book onto a ticket within EE it uses the same email template for all of them by default so the booking confirmation uses the same information for all.
Setting up and using the core functions of EE does not need a lot of knowledge, simply create a ticket with a price assigned on an event and publish the event. As EE is a distributed product it is designed to work in a way compatible with various different themes (it’s the theme of your site that controls the output) so customizing the output depends on what the theme is doing, there isn’t much we can do to work around that and keep the level of compatibility we currently have.
So may I ask, what is it you are trying to change?

I’m not really sure I understand what you are looking for here.

I’m not aware of any customizations to make EE more like EB and we didn’t design EE to mimic EB so we (EventEspresso.com) don’t have customizations to make it more like it at this time.
