I have done tons of reading about how to change the Single Event Page to use a different/custom post type. Unfortunately, I’m not at the level where I can understand what to do and how to do it. No clue where the child themes are found, how to change them, etc.

Is there a “junior” version of the instructions on how to make this happen? I don’t want my newsletter signup & blog breadcrumbs to show up on the page.

Many thanks,

– Clueless But Determined

Hi Kate,

Can you clarify what you mean by “blog breadcrumbs” or post a screenshot that shows those?

With regards to the newsletter signup, that looks like a widget so it can be removed by using a Widget Context manager plugin. Here’s a guide that shows how:

Hi, Josh –

Thanks for this excellent recommendation! I was able to remove most of the widget-y stuff from my page, hurray!

Unfortunately, I still have a couple of weird hangers-on (katedixon.org/events/true-leadership-workshop). I used the Widget Context Manager to tell both my Archives and Meta widgets to not show up anywhere (after just trying to get them to show up on the blog, like the sign-up and post history, which they refused to do), but they’re stubbornly showing up anyway. Even after moving them to the Inactive section of the widgets.

Any other ideas?

Many thanks,

– Kate

Hi Kate,

What can happen sometimes is some WordPress themes will display those as placeholders if no widgets are set to appear at all in the widget area. So one way to check if that’s happening is add one widget to display there, like maybe a text widget with some text. Then if the other widgets stop displaying there then you’ll know the theme is what’s making those display. In which case you can contact the theme support staff and ask them if there’s a way to remove those and show no widgets there.

Hi, Josh –

Thanks again for the quick & great advice! Of course, you’re absolutely right about what’s happening.

I just went the duct tape/baling wire route and threw a text widget with blanks in there, and it was enough to fool the theme into behaving.

I so appreciate your help!
