I am using custom message Templates, but it appears that they are not sending automatically. When I look at Messages, it says no recipient, and in order for me to send the messages, I have to select the wrench under actions. How can I get these to send automatically?

Hi there,

If you go to Dashboard -> Tools -> Site Health.

Does it show any issues with Cron/Scheduled events?

The message queue relies on WP Cron to function, if you are having to manually step through the message queue then it usually shows there is an issue with WP Cron on your site.

Site health should show some kind of error message stating such.

Another option is to install WP Crontrol and go to Tools -> Cron Events, any errors regarding WP Cron shown there?

Hi Tony – I don’t see any issues. If I turn on Default Templates, it works. Just seems that something is up with Custom Templates notifications.

Hmm, strange, there’s no difference with how the default message templates and custom templates are generated other than the fact that it uses a different template to generate.

When testing this are you waiting at least 5 mins for the messages to ‘step’ through the message queue?

As mentioned the message system uses WP_Cron, which relies on page hits on your site to run. So a message is triggered and set in the queue to generate, roughly every 5 mins the cron is triggered (when a page hit happens) for the messages to generate and sit waiting to send, again another 5 mins (and a page hit) and the message should send.

We are pushing it live at 11am today. Do I have to have the registration approves active on the default template for it to work on the custom?

We are pushing it live at 11am today.

Ok, but did you test the above from within the admin?

You can trigger a message, load the message activity section in a tab (Event Espresso -> Messages) and refresh that roughly 5 mins apart to view if it’s stepping through.

Do I have to have the registration approves active on the default template for it to work on the custom?

I’m not sure I follow, but you shouldn’t need anything active on the default template for it to work on the custom one.

Hi Tony – Do you have an email address where I can send you a screenshot?

Hi,

I’ve just checked and we’ve not had any email related to this, can you resend?

Note that if your attached images total size is greater then 10MB most mail servers will reject the email.

HiTony – resent. Should be from ryan@eosworldwide.com

Unfortunately, that screenshot doesn’t really help.

The messages will show exactly as they do in the screenshot when queued for generation.

Can you send/post a screenshot of the custom message template?

It’s above the fold that I need to view, like this – https://monosnap.com/file/UFMgpz9n6SBc8kvL3NRpYRkAXprmuY

Nothing stands out as a problem.

Do the global templates also have the same CC email address set on them?

If you remove the CC emails and test another registration, does it work then?

If not, I’d like to take a look over the messages to see if anything stands out. The quickest way to do that is using a temp login which you can send over using:

https://eventespresso.com/send-login-details/

Note that to confirm this, I’ll need an event I can change the templates on, so if you can create a new test event and set the template you are using onto that event it saves me changing any of your live events. You can set the event to password-protected (or private) to prevent others from registering onto it.

Hi Tony – It seems that messages are working now.

So we are looking to put in some additional questions on the registration form. We currently made a radio button, but don’t see it display it after making it required. Any thoughts on why this might be? Also, will this information carry through to the messages we send out?

Hi,

Making a question required will not add it to a registration form. The question needs to be added to a question group, and the question group needs to be assigned to the event. Here’s a link to the documentation that explains more:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/add-questions-event-espresso-question-groups/

The default email templates include a Questions/Answers section, so as long as those were not removed your emails will include the registration form answers.

We would like to take credit card payments using different currency other than USD. We have some events happening in London. Can we use multiple payment gateways for events? Would our London events only show the London payment gateway. Can you provide us with all documentation / articles in regards to this?

The Payment Methods Pro add-on could be used for this idea. Here’s a link to its documentation:

Hi – I see you have a shortcode in messages called ticket_list. This is great, however it lists out all ticket dates and times for that event. Is there a shortcode that would just display the ticket name they purchased? Event Name will not help, as we have different dates and times under one event.

Hi,

You can change the output of the [TICKET_LIST] shortcode. You scroll down the email template editor page a bit and look for a section labeled:
[TICKET_LIST] *:

That said, if the wrong dates show up under the ticket list, then you could check in the event editor and make sure the correct dates are assigned to each ticket. You click on the gear icon for the ticket to view the assigned dates.
