Hello, I am trying to get Event Espresso up and running again now that the new version has all the features I need.

However after making a few edits to events and settings, going to view the site gives me the following error: Safari Can’t Open Page. To many redirects occurred trying to open “https://thestonetrust.org”. This might occur if you open a page that is redirected to open another page which the redirected to open the original page.”

In firefox the site just does not load at all. This is only on my computer the site works fine on all other computers that are not trying to edit the site. I am using a mac with system 10.10.4 EE4 is up to date (unless you did a new version this morning).

I found the only way to clear this problem is to clear all website data, flush the DNS cache, restart the computer, and reboot the router. (yes I have to do all 4), and it is a pain!

Then I go back and try to do some more edits and all seems fine for a few minutes, and then it happens again. 3 times this morning. It only seems to happen when I am making edits to Event Espresso events/settings etc. Editing the rest of the wordpress site does not seem to do this.

I had some custom fields that I tried using on one of the event listings and that seemed to cause the problem once, so deleted those, but it happened before and after.

Any ideas? I am at a loss.

I did a little more troubleshooting and found that deactivating EE4 solves this problem. Unfortunately what I need to do is get EE4 working… so that is not a solution, but it does rule out other things.

Hi Brian,

Do you have an Https plugin installed? If so, do you also have WooCommerce or another e-commerce plugin installed on your site? If so, that could be affecting the redirects that happen when you use Event Espresso.

If you have both of those plugins, the solution is to disable the force ssl option for Woocommerce and use the https plugin to force ssl both for Woocommerce and Event Espresso pages.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for getting a head start on troubleshooting. This one is a bit tricky as Event Espresso doesn’t force https on its own.

Are you currently using any plugins that can force https such as WP HTTPS? If so, could you temporarily turn that plugin off?

Also, if Event Espresso is running then go ahead and turn it off as well by deactivating it.

Okay so I did some digging. Your replies got me thinking about the https. I did not think I had any plugins such as WP HTTPS. However as I was working on this the problem got so bad I got in touch with my host support at Greengeeks they figured out there was a plugin iThemes Security that was causing the issue. looking at the features it does say that it Forces SSL for all pages and posts. Deactivating this plugin solves the redirect loop problem. I am not crazy about having to deactivate this though. Is there another comparable plugin that you could recommend? or am I just being overly concerned. Seems like iThemes Security should maybe be added to your known conflicts list.

Thanks for your help!

iThemes Security is fine to use, but for your site (and others as well apparently) you’ll need to disable its SSL for front end and dashboards options.

Ah, well spotted. I did not see that setting. Turned it off and it is working fine. Thank you! Looking forward to getting EE4 up and going on this site.
