We have an active license and are using Event Espresso, but for some reason we get the following text under Event Espresso – WP Users (EE4.6+):
We need to update the plugin but can’t due to the message shown.
Then, when using Event Espresso Shortcodes, it does not seem to work. I tried using shortcodes to hide the categories and the dropdown but that did nothing.

That text doesn’t show the error message you are getting when updating, however, looking at your account you have an EE4 Personal License which does no include access to the add-ons and the WP User integration add-on has not been purchase separately so you currently do not have access to updates for it.

The calendar does not have the option to hide categories by passing them to the shortcode, there is no filter_categories parameter, may I ask where the user found that?
You can remove the category filter dropdown in the calendar settings.
Event Espresso -> Calendar -> Enable Filters in Calendar
