I am having trouble getting the calendar to show up in a sidebar of a page on the theme I am using. It shows up in the same sidebar within posts, but not on pages.

Here is an example of a post: http://www.tothepointe.com/2013/09/26/easy-ways-to-stay-fit/
Here is an example of a page: http://www.tothepointe.com/class-descriptions/core-division-class-descriptions/

I asked the developer of the theme for help, but this is what they’ve told me:

“I checked your site again. But there are no errors and absolutely no trace of the the widget, on the front end…. which makes debugging this really hard.
The plugin may not be rendering the widget at all. Since, the plugin you’re using is not a part of the theme, I would request you to contact the plugin author on this. Can you confirm form the plugin author , if there are any checks regarding the display of the widget in Category pages and sinle pages.”

I am at a loss and am hoping you can help me out.

Hi Nina,

I don’t think this is a theme conflict. I have a copy of the VibeCom theme loaded up on my test site and the calendar widget displays on posts and pages as expect. Since you’re running older versions of WordPress, Event Espresso, and the Event Espresso calendar add-on, the solution here may be to update to current the current versions of the software. The test site I have loaded up is running the current versions.

If I hit the upgrade button, should anything change? Will I have to redo the site?

Hi Nina,

I don’t have enough information to answer your question. Realistically, yes, when an update to software is made, some things should change. Will you have to redo the site? Probably not, but I don’t know enough about this site to say that for sure.

In cases like this one we recommend backing everything up before updating. In additional to that, it’s also good practice to clone the site to a development server and run all the updates there, then check things out/test to make sure everything is good before running the updates on the live server.

Are you referring to version 4 of Event Espresso? Otherwise, how do I upgrade. I just loaded the software a few months ago and it is already out of date?

I’m referring to Event Espresso version 3.1.36.4p for Event Espresso. Event Espresso 4 doesn’t have a calendar. The current Calendar version is2.2.2.p, and WordPress is currently version 3.8.1.

In case you’re not aware, there was a change to the WordPress regular release schedule and WordPress has sped up its release schedule so new major point releases are shipped much more frequently now, and we try to keep our software compatible with their current releases.
