Hello, For some time now my wordpress site has been running extremely slow – with some pages even timing out when loaded during periods where many users are trying to access tickets. I have deactivated and activated all my plugins one by one and the site only slows down like this when Event Espresso is active. Is there a solution to this? |

I am running Version 4.10.40.p

Hi there, My apologies for the delayed reply.
May I ask how many is ‘many’ here, please? Pages timing out shouldn’t be happening but if you have a lot of users all hitting your site at the same time it’s going to increase the load on the server. Processing eCommerce requests like those for registrations on Event Espresso will always increase the load on the server because we have to read/write to the database and each request is unique to the specific visitor it is for (which means no caching can be used). So whilst I’m not trying to sit here saying there’s nothing wrong with Event Espresso here and we do everything perfectly so this isn’t our problem. The most likely cause of this is outgrowing your server for the number of requests you are getting at those peak times. May I ask what type of hosting you are using?
Is it instant? As in you deactivate Event Espresso and a page that has nothing at all to do with Event Espresso loads really quickly, then you activate Event Espresso and that same page instantly starts to load slowly? Or is it more gradual?
Just to note, you can deactivate (and even delete) that plugin. It sets up the counties within the database and then doesn’t run again. So with it activate its just going to be checking if it has been previously run and returning out of the function on every request to the site. |
