I’ve created an event email however it is being sent by my website host name and I want to send from my site name. Previous support discussion indicated a plugin would fix, however this plugin is not compatible with my version of WP (3.8.1). Using EE 3.1.36.4. Mailchimp integration does not appear to allow tags to be used. Any ideas?

Hi Roy, have you tried adjusting fancy email headers or using a plugin like this?

Hi Roy,

Have you looked into the PostMark or Mandrill services? Which plugin is not compatible with your version of WordPress? Quite often the WordPress repos state that a plugin is not compatible, when in fact it is, but the developer has not updated the readme file to indicate that it is.

We still recommend using the PostMark or Mandrill plugins.

Thanks Jonathan.
The link to the send-form plug-in confirms it is no longer supported and may not be compatible with later versions of wordpress. I’ll look into the PostMark and Mandrill plugins to overcome the event email issue, and come back to the support forum if unable to resolve.
I appreciate your assistance and follow up.

Hi Roy,

This may be an obvious question, but have you set the “Use fancy headers” option to Yes in the General Settings?

Hi Dean.
I’ve no issue with the obvious.
I have enabled fancy email headers, however when I just tested with a dummy entry, I didn’t receive any email at first, then when I manually resent from the event listing, the email came from “talking7@bluehost…” (our website host).
As I use Mailchimp for newsletters, I checked the Mandrill documentation to see if it would allow me to send emails from our “hello” email address instead of website host. However the Mandrill documentation isn’t clear what additional functionality it adds.
I’ve been going around in circles for days now as the support documentation isn’t sufficient for a non-techie. How can I just get EE to set this up for me so it works?
Thanks

Hi Roy,

What email do you have set in the Event Espresso > General Settings > Organisation details section? That’s normally the email used. Plus with the Fancy headers it will use the Website name as well

Hi Dean.
I had set the email to “hello@talkingmarketing.com.au” under Organisation Details when I installed the plugin, and have also enabled fancy email headers, however the confirmation email is still being sent by “talking7@bluehost” (the default site and host email).
I’ve tried a plugin that purported to change the “send-from” email address, however this also didn’t work.
I’ll ask my website coder to change the site code to change the default send-from email.
Many thanks, Roy

Is it just EE emails, or are all email from the site showing that From: address? It may be the sendmail that the host is using that is changing it. You might be able to get around that by using Mandrill or an SMTP plugin.

Thanks Sidney
I’ve asked my coder for his advice – whether I can use an SMTP plugin or change the website code to specify my “hello” email address instead of the bluehost address. Hopefully that will address the urgent issue of event registration emails being recognised by the recipient and not directed to the spam folder.
I’ll also check out Mandrill as we already use Mailchimp.
Thanks for your advice.
Cheers, Roy

Hi Roy,

May I ask if you host your emails with a different provider?

Your site may be using the “talking7@bluehost” account as the ‘hello’ account does not exist within your hosting account. Event if bluehost does NOT handle you mail/MS you should create the account within cPanel.

Open up cPanel, go to Email Accounts, is hello@talkingmarketing.com.au within the list there?

Hi Tony. Thanks for your advice. Our emails are through Gmail so had not been created in Bluehost. I’ve just created the email we want: hello@talkingmarketing.com.au and it’s also through Gmail (hopefully no overlap there).
I’ll re-test the registration process to see if this changes the email sender.
Many thanks
Roy

Hi Tony. It worked! The event registration email is now being sent as our nominated email address, not the default bluehost address. Thank you for your follow up and sound advice.
Cheers, Roy
