We are nearing launch of our website which utilizes EE for registration. The pages were loading slowly so our hosting company ran some benchmarking tool to help analyze our loading speed. Here is what they found:

I took some time to investigate why your WordPress site was loading slowly. I used various benchmarking tools to help analyze your current speeds. The data collected show that the server was functioning adequately but WordPress was taking longer to execute on your site than other sites on the server which lead me to probe into what plugins you were using. I uncovered the root of the problem is with one of your plugins your using,Event Espresso.I deactivated this plugin and all of its extension and your site page load times decrease dramatically from 14-15 seconds down to 1-2 seconds.I have left Event Espresso deactivated. Your site may not be affected if you only need to use on or two of Event Espresso’s features but if you want to use the plugin to its full potential I would recommend contacting Event Espresso on how their plugin can be run without effecting your site’s performance.”

Can you please advise. EE is critical to our new site and obviously the increased load times do are not palatable.

Thanks!

Hi David,

Which version of Event Espresso is installed?

Just downloaded EE last weekend: V3.1.31.3.P and all the associated plug-ins that come with the EE business license.

The 3.1.31.3 release was shipped two days ago and it had a significant amount of work done on the admin to reduce the number of database queries. The performance in the admin will be improved greatly especially if you have a large number of events.

You can try updating to .31.3 and you should see a difference in the admin. If you are looking to improve the front end page load times you can install a plugin like Better WP minify which will combine the JavaScript and CSS files that your site outputs and this will reduce page load times.

Hmmm…when I look under my profile, it said I had .3 – looking on my admin page it says I have .1  I will download .3 and see if that makes any difference.  I will also install the Better WP minify.  However, how do these changes account for the difference in load times between Event Espresso is activated/deactivated?

Hi David,

Your account page will show the latest version that’s available for you to download. Your WordPress plugin dashboard will show what you have installed. You can copy the key from your account page and paste it into the field at the bottom of Event Espresso>General Settings and you’ll get automatic update notifications with 1-click updates.

Like many WordPress plugins that have many powerful features, Event Espresso will use server resources when it’s activated. So on the admin side of things you’ll see a difference if it’s active. On the front end of the site there can be a slow down because of the additional scripts that Event Espresso uses getting loaded. The Better WP minify plugin will help with that.
