I attempted to update to the latest EE4 version on my WordPress (4.1.1) site and received 2 messages – the first indicated the site was down for maintenance, and the second reads “The EE_Error core class could not be loaded”. I cannot pull up the site nor log in via the back-end. Please advise on best next steps. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm. I’m not sure why this error occurred. Did you install the update manually in FTP, or in the WordPress dashboard. The best way to get your site back up is to remove all instances of EE core plugin via FTP in wp-content/plugins. Then download the file from your account, unzip the folder, then install into the wp-content/plugins directory.
Many thanks for your reply. I updated the plugin through the WordPress dashboard. Thanks for outlining my best next steps. One question before I attempt the process – will my current user registration data (name, payment confirmation, etc.) be preserved if I remove the EE core plugin via FTP and reinstall? Thanks again for your help.
Now login to your WordPress admin and go to Plugins. Locate Event Espresso in the list of plugins and deactivate it and remove it.
Then from the Plugins screen in the WordPress admin click on Add New –> Upload. Then browse to the zip file that you downloaded from your account. Select it and begin the upload process.
You can activate Event Espresso after it has finished.
