Hello, a visitor said they received this error message when trying to register.

“An error has occurred Your form data could not be applied to any valid registrations”

What does this mean? Thank you.

The error means that between the time they started the registration process and moved to the next step, their registration data was deleted. This can happen when the session doesn’t maintain state, and is usually caused by another plugin deleting the session key from the database, and can also be caused by caching (server side or a plugin).

What do you recommend I do to figure out which one it is?

It may not be either, but you can check with your host to make sure they don’t have object caching activated. Also if there have been any new plugins added to the site then those can be troubleshot by temporarily deactivating them, then check to see if the error message happens again. If you’re usually not seeing the error though, this can be tricky.

One other thing you can check is if the person that saw the message can remember how much time they had the registration page open. If for example, they started the registration, then left that browser window open for a few hours, then finished the registration later, that could also cause a similar error because their session expired.
