When exporting reports, we’re getting an error saying “Sorry we couldn’t find <file directory:\event-espresso-registrations.xlxs. Is it possible it was moved, renamed or deleted?” Is this a problem with Event Espresso? If so, could you please provide a resolutions? Thank you!

Hi there,

Event Espresso does not output .xlxs files for the report, it should be a .CSV file.

Can you post the full steps you are taking to get the above, please?

Have you had any customizations done by a developer?

Hi Tony. No, there’s is no customizations done. What we do is:

1. Using Mozilla Firefox, we go to Event Espresso > Registrations.
2. At the bottom of the table, click on “All Registration CSV Report” or “Filtered CSV Report” (if we are using filter)
3. After it generates the report, a window pops up asking if we want to save or download. We choose Open as and it defaults to Excel. This is where we get the error message and the will not open.

Ok, so of you save the file and then manually open it, does it work then?

Yes, it works that way. However, downloading isn’t the option we are going for.

Yeah, I understand but the above means the issue isn’t with EE’s export but whatever your browser/Excel is doing with the file when it auto opens.

Searching for the error you posted it looks like this is common:

My guess is your tempory file location for Firefox hits the path limit within Excel.

Does it show the full file location or is the above the exact error?

Hi Tony,

Thank you for looking into this error. Just as long as it is not an EE error.

It shows the full file location, but it’s not more than the 218 limit as discussed in this thread. As an example, here’s exactly what the location is: C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\event-espresso-registrations-2020-01-14.xlsx

Ah ok, there’s more info in that last reply.

event-espresso-registrations-2020-01-14.xlsx (ignoring .xlsx for a second) isn’t the full filename, at that point, there is a space and then the time.

Example:

event-espresso-registrations-2020-01-17 12-02-34.csv

I tested this using Firefox and can reproduce the problem, after I click OK on the dialogue in Excel, it shows another prompt showing something like 12-02-34.csv can not be found, hinting that the space is causing issues with Firefox auto-opening the file.

So whilst this isn’t really an issue with EE we can help get this fixed. We don’t have a filter you can use to change the filename currently but I’ve create a ticket to investigate and see what we can do.

Hi Tony, yes that’s exactly what happens to us too. Thank you! Looking forward to an update from you.

Hi there,

Just so you know, the next version of Event Espresso will automatically convert the space between the date and time to a dash (-), which should prevent the above error.

We have a couple of tickets currently under testing before the update can be released but the above has already been included so will be a part of it.

The fix for the issue reported here was included in the Event Espresso 4.10.3.p release.

Please do let us know if you continue to have issues open the CSV with the above version.
