We’ve been running EE4 for nearly a year. This week (not sure exact day) it’s deactivated itself. Not it won’t re-activate. It didn’t seem like it was on the latest version (I’m not sure why it’s no auto-updating) so I deleted and have just uploaded 4.7.1
Any suggestions? This is live on our site, or should be.
Thanks.

Hi Toby,

When you activate ee4 does it show any error when it de-activates?

No error message is shown – I just click activate, the page refreshes (slowly), and then the plug-in still appears to be not activated…

I’m getting a few time-outs – I don’t know if this might be related? But it’ strange EE4 should have de-activated – no other plugin has done this to my knowledge.

Okay – I’ve got an error message. It’s a problem our side with PHP…

We’re sorry, but Event Espresso requires PHP version 5.3.0 or greater in order to operate. You are currently running version 5.2.17.
In order to update your version of PHP, you will need to contact your current hosting provider.

Hi,

Yes, EE4 needs PHP 5.3.9+ to function correctly.

See here for the requirements: https://eventespresso.com/requirements/

Most hosts are now moving over to use PHP 5.3.x as a standard, but some hosts aren’t and it’s also a case that if you have had the account with the host for a while they may not automatically update your PHP version.

I would contact your host and they should be able to get your hosting upgraded (normally this is at no charge).

We introduced the PHP 5.3.0 as a minimum in version 4.4 of EE4:

https://eventespresso.com/wiki/ee4-changelog/#4.4.0

So either you were previously running version 4.3 and have recently updated to the latest version or your host has altered the version of PHP running on your server.

Have you contacted the host to have them update PHP?
