EE4 with WP Users is sending blank e-mails

Hello! I’m running EE 4.6.31.p with WP Users 1.1.4.p and Stripe Gateway 1.0.6.p on WP 4.2.2.

I’m having a problem with e-mail notifications being sent out for registrations. Both the attendees and the admin are receiving e-mails but they come up blank. Viewing the source of the e-mail, I see the HTML head and body sections, but nothing between <body …> and </body>. The event in question does have custom templates enabled, though viewing those templates in preview appears to work fine.

Any ideas? Also of note, we used this same server last year (upgraded the existing install) and it worked fine. Mail delivery is working fine, just the content of the messages is blank.

Hi anthroarts,

If you re-send the registration message using the actions within Event Espresso -> Registrations – http://take.ms/doVJR

Is the email to the registrant still blank?

If you temporarily disable the WP Users Integration Add-on and re-send the message is it still blank?

I tested re-sending the registration both with the Users add-on enabled and disabled, both times I received an e-mail with a blank body as described above.

I have also been receiving the admin e-mails as attendees have been registering, and those are all blank as well, so this seems to affect both message types.

Can you go to Event Espresso -> Messages – http://take.ms/FaDK0

You should see a list of message templates list this – http://take.ms/dT5bk

It depends on which message template your using, for if your attendees are approved you’l be receiving the Registration Approved message template, can you click to edit the Event Admin context for that message type – http://take.ms/Yctmp

Do the fields within that page have content in them, or are they blank?

Also check the Primary Registrant context.

If these are paid registrations that are yet to pay you’ll need to check the ‘Registration Pending Payment’ message template.

Checking through that, I do see that both the default message templates as well as the custom template created for our event have content in the Main Content section for both the Primary Registrant and Event Admin contexts.

As a test, from the edit message templates page I put my e-mail address into Extra Actions and did a test send, and that e-mail DID come back correctly. I have the test message with body.

Checking the Edit Event page for our event, under the Notifications section, e-mail tab has all message types set to the custom template. I can click Edit on any of those, and Main Content is populated properly.

Sorry I’m running into a hard one here. 🙂

Hmm, strange.

Ok one more test.

Can you set the Event to use the global templates and re-test this please?

Interesting! That did it. A test e-mail to myself went through correctly that time. I guess we’ll just update the global templates for now (which is fine).

Thanks!

It could be something as simple as broken html (a missing closing tag) in the custom templates.

If you want to use custom templates, create new ones from the globals, don’t make any changes to them and test they work. That way you’ll know that custom templates are working as expected for your site.
