Hi, I have installed the ticketing plugin and the barcode does not come out on the default ticket and when I went to make some changes to try and get it to appear with the shortcode, it still does not display. I only see the QR code.

Also, what is the difference between the bar code and QR code? Can I use one or the other? Can you scan the QR code with a smart phone to check in attendees. Thanks for all this information.

Hi Scott,

Do you have both add-ons installed?

EE4 Ticket Scanning v1.0.0.p
EE4 Printable Tickets v1.0.1.p

The QR code cannot be scanned via the Event Espresso mobile apps at this time.

Thanks

Lorenzo

Yes Lorenzo…both of them are installed….

Based upon your answer, it seems the QR code won’t work for us anyway, so I will have to remove it and make sure I get the bar code to work and purchase the scanner.

Once I do make that purchase, how do I get it to integrate with the software?

Also, Is there a way I can check people in by searching if they don’t have their ticket with them when they show up for the event?

Hi Scott,

Just to make sure its clear, currently the Event Espresso mobile ticketing apps are not compatible with EE4 (only EE3)

The QR codes will work fine if your handheld scanner supports them, it is often easier/quicker to scan a QR code than it is a barcode (although only marginally).

Once I do make that purchase, how do I get it to integrate with the software?

It depends on how you want to use the scanner.

Are you planning on using a mobile device (not using the Event Espresso EE3 ticketing App) or pc/mac/laptop?

There are a couple of workarounds with EE4 tickets, but I need to know how you want the ticketing to work so I can provide further details.

Hi, I am using EE4 so anything we discuss should be related to that. If you tell me I can accomplish the same thing without a bar code and just use a QR code, then I will just do that. That said, I will need to know a model scanner you recommend and tell me how it integrates with the software. We use a PC, not a Mac and would like to know how we can check people in quickly when they arrive if they didn’t print their ticket or have it on their phone. The ticket scanner plugin asks to enter the barcode number and that is impossible either without the barcode in front of you, or not using it in our case…..and a QR code doesn’t have any numbers.

If they don’t bring their ticket or phone in, how do you intend on using the scanner?

In this case, you can print out a hard copy of the check in list (which can be exported from the registrations list table) and that way you can look up the attendee info and manually check them in.

I am not assuming that everyone will forget to bring their ticket, but want to come up with a way to check them in fast if they don’t have it.

What scanner can you recommend that will work for bar codes and QR codes, are portable and please tell me how it integrates with the software.

Hi Scott,

I’m not aware of hardware will do both QR codes and Barcodes. I can recommend a bluetooth scanner over a wired version because they are more portable.

I can also recommend a CCD scanner or a camera based scanner over a laser scanner if you intend on scanning codes off of phone screens.

The scanner device integrates with the software as an input device. So when you scan a ticket, the Reg code from the ticket is input into the field on the barcode scanner page.

Can we use a QR code reader on a cell phone to scan the tickets? I’m still confused as to how we then get the data into Event Espresso. Sorry, but your prior explanation regarding an input device doesn’t make much sense since EE is web-based.

Hi Scott,

Currently EE4 tickets CANNOT be scanned via mobile phone apps, only via an actual barcode scanner.

The barcode scanner is attached to the computer as an input device, so you will have your laptop or desktop computer with your site open in a browser window and the scanner connected to the laptop/computer. The software detects the scanner as an input device and loads the data scanned from it.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. My event is tomorrow. I purchased a ID Tech IDBA-6621LRB – 1D and 2D scanner connected it to my computer. It auto configured the drivers. I click on Barcode Scanner in event espresso and tried to scan a QR code and nothing happens! Please help me!

Hi Scott,

Are you trying to scan from a printed ticket or directly from a mobile device screen?

If you (temporarily) swap to a standard barcode on the ticket, does it scan that?
